Recent updates

February 8th, 2023: Federal executive branch agencies have updated requirements for the registration and use of .gov domains, via OMB Memorandum 23-10. The update details how domains are requested and which may be approved.

January 31st, 2023: The .gov zone file is now available in ICANN’s Centralized Zone Data Service. Learn more in last September’s blog post.

September 14th, 2022: We’ve written a blog about the last year: we’re building a new registrar, publishing the .gov zone file, and ending support for fed.us. We’ve also shared some guidance on how to think about moving to .gov.

April 27th, 2021: .gov domains are available at no cost to qualifying U.S.-based government organizations. We’ve also updated the requirements to obtain and maintain a .gov domain.
